Have you ever received a meal kit subscription from Hello Fresh? Green Chef? Blue Apron?
It’s a pretty great feeling—fun ingredients, fresh produce, a recipe booklet—all neatly packaged in a box and delivered to your door.
Families in need are often given a box when they visit food banks. As they move through the pantry, the box is filled with nonperishable items and little produce, if any at all.
Our Mission
It’s startling when you first realize it: Both wealthy families and families in need receive their food in a box. Those boxes just look very different.
We can’t always change a family’s financial situation, we can change what kind of box they receive.
Enter Sweet Radish
Founded in March 2022, Sweet Radish's mission is to serve both small, regenerative farms and underserved communities by matching locally-grown CSA food boxes with refugee and immigrant families in Nashville, Tennessee. Through donations, our partner farms are paid in full for their CSA shares, ensuring income for their indispensable work while also lifting the burden from families in need.
At its start in 2022, Sweet Radish fed 5 families in Nashville with weekly CSA deliveries. This year, a Local Food Purchase Assistance grant through Second Harvest Food Bank helped us serve 38 families in 2023! Your contributions will help us reach our goals of continuing to serve more families each year!
FAQs
-
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Purchasing one CSA share gives one family a box of fresh produce every week of the growing season, between 24-28 weeks.
-
The majority of our donations (over 80%) go directly towards purchasing CSA shares from local farms. The rest of our donations go to administrative costs such as website maintenance, marketing materials, and transportation costs. Sweet Radish is operated solely by volunteers - our board members and volunteers are not compensated in any way.
All donations are tax-deductible; all donors will receive an end-of-year receipt of their donations. All donations received will be used in the next calendar year.

Our partner farms are chosen based on their location and practices. The farms must be within 100 miles of Nashville, and they must farm using organic and regenerative practices. While we do not require the farms to be certified (an often costly process), the farms must refrain from using pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, and synthetic fertilizers. They must have a strong desire to leave the land better than how they found it, and farm accordingly.
The number of farms we partner with is determined by our inflow of donations and a farm’s number of available CSA shares. A partner farm must have at least five available CSA shares to designate to Sweet Radish. Interested in becoming a partner farm? Please visit our contact page.

Sweet Radish partners with TIRRC (Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition) to identify families who would most benefit from a CSA share. As Sweet Radish grows, so will our number of partner organizations. If you are interested in becoming a partner organization, please visit our contact page.
